On Iraq, "It's Us vs. Dems' Washington Consultants" by David Sirota
In the above blog posted by David Sirota, there is a link to a three-minute audio excerpt of a conference call that was recently held by Senator Russ Feingold.
In that conference call, Feingold talks about how this is a battle between so-called "centrists" from the Clinton administration and other quarters, who largely supported the war from the start, and the rest of the country.
Feingold is SPOT ON.
Clearly, timid DINOs are choosing to follow the DLC "Playbook" regarding how to react to the escalation errr "surge" ... right to the "T."

... [Democrats] should use Congress as their bully pulpit -- to pass a resolution expressing their lack of confidence in Bush's new plan ... Democrats could also usefully press the White House to start planning for the worst -- large scale ethnic cleansing, refugee flows, and regional intervention -- should Iraq spiral deeper into chaos.
That's right, only oppose Bush's "new plan" but not the war itself. We certainly wouldn't want to bring attention to the fact that we should have never gotten into this war in the first place nor that so many in the party voted enthusiastically for this insane war now would we???
And, of course, while it is good to blame the President for all that is going on, we certainly shouldn't do anything to actually stop him:

Some Democrats would like to go further -- by withholding funding for the additional troops. For a variety of reasons, however, this is a bridge too far. First, where Democrats (joined by some Republicans) would unite behind a resolution disapproving the Bush plan, many will be loath to cut off funding for troops that have already started deploying to Iraq. Why put the party's disunity on public display?
If these people were back in elementary school and trying to deal with the school bully, they'd say that, while we of course oppose him, we'd better continue paying him a part of our lunch money and let him continue to beat up those who don't - otherwise we might appear to be weak!
Makes me wanna puke!
